Help me give my students tools to develop fine motor skills! Fine motor skills involve the use of the smaller muscle of the hands and are the foundation for writing.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at an amazing Title I school where 85% of our students come from low socioeconomic status. Most of the families I serve have working parents with little or no education. Comprised of mostly minorities, our school has a spirit of unity that shines through. We are a large family nearing 900 students. The passion for learning is felt when you walk through the doors. I work with children with special needs in grades K through 2nd. My students are loving and kind and have real determination. I strive to teach them the skills they need to be active participants in our community.
My Project
Fine motor skills are the foundation of writing. Fine motor skills involve the use of the small muscles that control the hand, fingers, and thumb. They help children perform important tasks like feeding themselves, grasping toys, buttoning and zipping clothes, writing, drawing, and more. The ability to complete self-care and everyday tasks helps a child’s self-esteem and confidence to increase.
Help me create weekend take-home backpacks so my students with special needs can develop fine motor skills.
Tongs, grabbers, letter beds, yarn-laced tips, and mini magic boards will be resources to fill the backpacks with.
