Each student now has a designated place to keep completed assignments and track progress. One special moment was watching the students use the new crayons to draw and label their responses after a reading lesson. The supplies allowed every student to participate and demonstrate their understanding in a way that matched their individual needs.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited when they first saw the colorful folders, new crayons, and binders! They enjoyed choosing their folder colors and were proud to have their own materials. The tissues and disinfecting wipes are also helping us maintain a clean, comfortable learning environment throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building individual student portfolios in the binders. Students will add reading responses, math work, data sheets, and examples of their progress throughout the year. We will also use the folders to help students practice organizing their materials and becoming more independent with classroom routines. We received weighted emotion cushions, sensory bins, colorful sensory rice, magnetic building blocks, dough tools, pin art, stress balls, and organizational pouches.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when they saw the new materials! These resources give them appropriate ways to take a sensory break, calm their bodies, keep their hands busy, and regulate their emotions so they can return to learning ready to focus. I especially love seeing students independently begin to recognize when they need a break and choose a tool that works for them.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue teaching students how and when to use these tools appropriately, while building independence with identifying their emotions, choosing a coping strategy, and returning to their classroom activities. They were super excited to know that people in our community cared about them to share with us these needed supplies. They were \"open-mouth\" shocked when I told them it came from people they didn't know, but that believed in them and knew they could do great things with some more supports. \r\n\r\n We are using the menu covers to quickly and easily transition from one activity to another without having to look for pages or different supplies. The dry erase markers make it super easy to do addition and then quickly change to practicing subtraction. If they make a mistake they just quickly erase and start again. We don't have to hunt down pencils or erasers. It has helped me immensely because I can have multiple tools and activities ready to go for almost the whole day without having to constantly be changing or looking for things. I used the amazing gift card to purchase interactive math and reading activities that are tailored to my students needs and that motivate them with fun images, movements, and reinforcement when they get something correct! The magnetic rod and roll of paper have allowed us to build words and practice forming those letter that make them up. It allows the kids to see all the words they now know in real time without having to remember. They can just see our long scroll of hard work. \r\n\r\nMy goal moving forward it to use these tools everyday to get the students excited with new activities that are quickly adapted and changed without lost time or energy. We are going to be building a word scroll that shows all the words we can now read and then students who can read that word get to sign their name next to it. The mesh zipper pouches keep our small supplies tidy, and the variety of snacks—from Goldfish and granola bars to Slim Jims and fruit snacks serve as both motivation and nourishment during small group work. These additions have made our routines smoother and more joyful, giving students a sense of ownership and pride.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, my students were beyond excited. They eagerly helped unpack the items and couldn't believe how many treats and supplies we had received. The moment we set up the reward drawers, they started working hard to earn their first prizes! We've been using the laminating pouches and folders to create individualized learning materials and visual supports that last all year, while the electric hole punch and cardstock paper help us organize student work and portfolios with ease. The painter's tape has even been used to create learning stations around the room, making transitions smoother and keeping materials accessible for everyone.\r\nWe also received some sensory and fine motor replacements that couldn't have come at a better time! They loved how their solution of switching seats to avoid bumping into elbows was the the solution the teacher went with as well. It's now in our calm down corner and I caught a few of my students rereading it while they handled some big emotions.\r\n\r\n\"Just Ask\" is a book we are working on, page by page, as they are introduced to students who are different than them, or in some cases, not so different. It is really helping with the amount of empathy they have for each others and their peers in other classes.
