Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 1st grade to 20 students, one of which has special needs. Most of the children are on free or reduced lunch. I teach in an area where most of the kids come into school only speaking Spanish.

Many of my kids speak Spanish to their parents at home. They have trouble translating what they have learned in school to their parents. Many of the parents have expressed a desire to help their child with homework, but it is hard for them when I send home worksheets and they do not understand the directions. Another problem that parents have is that they work and don't have the time or money to put together fun activities to do with their child.

That is why this set of take home backpacks is so wonderful. There are 16 backpacks ranging in topics from opposites to shapes, plants or ball activities. Each backpack features 4 double-sided, write & wipe cards with simple, step-by-step instructions for completing the activities. Plus there is a book that reinforced the concepts being taught. Each backpack includes all of the materials that is necessary to complete each activity. There is also a storage rack that holds the backpacks when they are not being used. These backpacks will help empower the parents to engage in meaningful activities with their child. It is free, all inclusive and exciting for the family and child to do together.
