My Project
The kindergarten students in my Title I elementary school are gearing up for a fun Spring reading season. In the next literacy unit, they will explore the theme of "Home of the Free and the Brave."
Through the lens of baseball, they will examine cross-cultural similarities.
The texts I have requested, "Froggy Plays T-ball" and "Little Baseball," will serve as companion texts for the established ELA curriculum. Baseball is NOT a sport most of my students are familiar with. These two books will help fill the gaps created by limited English proficiency and current cultural divides. The students will read the books, practice hitting whiffle balls off of tees in the gymnasium, run around the bases, and then return to the books to deepen their understanding of the vocabulary and culture of baseball.
