My Project

Our students learn through their questions and curiosity, from trial and error, and most of all, by doing. This project will provide 100 students with a STEM kit for summer learning. The kit will have materials and directions printed and inside of a cellophane STEM bag. The printer ink, cellophane bags, and paper will provide the materials to create each bag.

Inside the bag, students will have materials to build solar cars, paper airplanes, and art supplies (including watercolor paper and paints) to explore creative ways to make anything from a bookmark to a structure.

Challenge cards inside the bags will guide students to use the supplies and materials creatively and innovatively. For example, challenge cards will provide instructions to create and test paper airplanes. Some cards will have open-ended design challenges, allowing students to create the tallest structure using a single piece of paper. Other cards will have art challenges allowing students to use watercolor paints and Sharpies to create animals and bookmarks or decorate the solar car. Each card will have open-ended design challenges to spur creativity and encourage innovative thinking (the printer ink and paper will also be used for this).

With these kits, students will explore solar energy, art, and the engineering design process. They will be learning through play and trial and error. Every student can learn at home with the materials provided in this project. The resources will allow creativity, imagination, and fun over the summer.
