With your generous support, our students engaged in the engineering design process to explore environmental issues connected to erosion and habitat loss. Students tackled real-world challenges impacting Florida's coastal and terrestrial ecosystems, including habitat loss and erosion.\r\n\r\nWith the wave kits, our students used sand, water, bottle caps (shells), and sponges (plants) to create and test living shorelines. Students worked in teams, shared ideas, and developed solutions. Some students carried the ideas to the next level by working on solutions at home. Students merged science, engineering, and creativity to design solutions and test models. Listening to them discuss ideas and solve complex problems was a reminder of how important it is to encourage students to think critically while listening and sharing ideas with others.\r\n\r\nStudents explored the migration of Monarch Butterflies and studied the impact of habitat loss on this magnificent animal. They used coding and robotics to explore the migration (the robot was the butterfly) of Monarch Butterflies. With the reduction in milkweed plants (LEGO's), students discovered the impacts that habitat loss has on species like the Monarch Butterfly. This engineering lesson allowed students to make connections to our science standards, coding, robotics, and engineering.\r\n\r\nWe are grateful for your generous support and for believing young learners can do great things. Because of your generous support, our students not only learned about science—they used creativity, imagination, and teamwork to design, test, and share solutions to real-world challenges. Your support makes possible the opportunity for young learners to become informed, empowered, and inspired to protect the ecosystems they love, one creative idea at a time.","fullyFundedDate":1766689649196,"projectUrl":"project/eco-engineers/9891181/","projectTitle":"Eco Engineers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hodges","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6173224_orig.jpg?crop=999,999,x0,y540&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1676510052012","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hodgesscience"},{"teacherId":6173224,"projectId":8933090,"letterContent":"Please accept our heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude for your generosity and support for \"Marine Debris Musical: STEM, Theater & Planet Stewardship.\" Our students are busy choosing the class themes and making the props for the musical that will take place in April (2025). In the STEAM Lab, each fourth-grade class chose a specific ocean zone and animals unique to that ocean zone for their part in the musical. After researching the ocean animals, students have started working on their props in the art room. The cardboard used for the props is first prepared using Gesso on large sheets of cardboard donated by Lowe's. The prepared cardboard is then cut into shapes of the ocean animals and then painted with the neon paint purchased with your generous support. In the next few months, students will finish making the props then begin working with our music teacher to create a musical. It has been such a special opportunity for our students to work collaboratively with other 4th-grade students, and across subject areas including Science, Art, and Music. Many of you have students at our school and we can't wait to share the musical with fellow students, parents, family members, and our community in April. Your generous support means so much to our students and our school. Thank you for dreaming with us and supporting our vision to bring art, music, STEM, and stewardship to our wonderful 4th grade students.
