Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school is located in Louisiana. Over 95% of the students would qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Unfortunately, most families in this neighborhood are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. However, they believe in the importance of children getting an education.

Kindergarten students are always excited and ready to learn new things.

They have a thirst for learning that must be quenched, and they appreciate everything that we do in the classroom. They need my support as well as anyone else who can lend a helping hand.

My Project

All of my students need to be able to practice reading at school and at home. Unfortunately, kindergarten students don't get to check out books from the school library, and they don't have opportunities to go to libraries in their community. However, they enjoy reading and would benefit a great deal if they could practice reading these books at school and be allowed to have them to take home.

With the advantage of being able to take books home, students will be able to continue their learning and keep their enthusiasm for reading when they get home.

As a result, students will improve in their reading fluency and comprehension.
