Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an urban school in North Carolina. One of the larger units of study for my first graders is the unit on living things. Part of our standard course of study states that, "the learner will conduct investigations and make observations to build an understanding of the needs of living organisms."
We study animals and plants. We look at what all living things need to survive. We use our science kits that include seeds for growing plants, fish, snails and insects for our terrarium. We enjoy having books, websites and magazines that deal with these topics. To encourage all our students to read I would love to have leveled books on this course of study and a large fish tank that the students can observe living organism thriving. The leveled text will be used for guided reading. We study living organism from September through April. This project will start September 14, 2006 and end April 30, 2007.
