Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the proud counselor of 709 students in an elementary school in Odessa, Tx. Our school houses kindergarten through fifth grade. Odessa is an oilfield town and due to the rise in this job field, we have many students who are new to Odessa, and/or Texas. I have many students who live in RV's, are doubling up with family, or live in hotels. We are a low socioeconomic school, yet this does not deter my students' eagerness to learn. They are a resilient bunch who have overcome many obstacles.
My Project
Building a library is essential in any area of education, and this is true in school counseling as well. My students will learn about being mindful and strategies to help with this practice as well as changing fixed mindsets to growth mindsets. The books I am asking for will serve 709 students just this year alone. I will be able to provide a different weekly lesson that my students can put into practice not only in school but in their daily living. These books can also be used for small group counseling as well as individual counseling within the school.
