My Students

My 600+ k-5 artists are a diverse group of scholars from non-dominate cultures and backgrounds. Our Title 1 school has over 70% of students qualifying for free breakfast and lunch. These amazing students overcome barriers and work through trauma, growing and learning each day!

Art class is a safe space where students can explore their creativity while studying artists who look like them, speak their languages, and come from their cultures.

The little artists at our school do BIG things!

My Project

These "Z stools" provide flexibility and choice, giving students the freedom to easily sit or stand while simultaneously freeing up floor space so that students can move about the room safely. The stools can be pushed neatly and completely under the tables, hang from the tables making clean-up time a breeze, or be put on top of the tables as needed.

Transforming the art room into a real studio space complete with Z stools will help my students view themselves as creators!

Art is such a powerful cultural force, and I am committed to helping the k-5 scholars at my school see themselves as agents of change. As we use art to explore emotions, interpret social justice issues, and amplify voices, I want my students to feel EMPOWERED to tackle problems as artists. These Z stools will set the tone. When students walk in the room, they will feel like they're entering an actual studio space.
