Help me give my students two cameras that work, two that they can actually USE for our school's journalism courses. We shouldn't have to use duct tape to on the one camera shared among 75 students!
Engaged, eager, excited, intelligent young students enter my classroom seeking a classroom experience atypical to those they've had before. They are eager, young world changers hoping for realistic journalist's experience, but they are disappointed to find themselves using one camera that is taped together and almost as old as they are! These bright young journalists are hopeful that they can have access to reliable technology, sharing more than just one camera. Help me provide a classroom that affords them this opportunity!
My Project
Aspiring young journalists need cameras to capture the subjects of their articles! Students enrolled in my journalism course came in expecting to learn the basics of photography; while they have excellent information and theories about HOW to take the pictures and have had wonderful outside experts demonstrate skills, they do not have access to cameras that work.
When I took over the journalism class at the beginning of this school year, I inherited the one camera that we have: it only works if it is taped together in two places.
It is 14 years old. Even taped together, the camera doesn't always focus and 75 students among two classes are using one camera.
This project will fund the purchase of two standard digital cameras, two SD cards, and two carrying cases. This will afford students the ability to implement their learning, have access to two functioning cameras, and produce a newspaper and yearbook filled with quality pictures.
