This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach third grade in a high-poverty school in Georgia. I serve students with a range of abilities, including gifted, intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbances, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.
Many of my students are far below grade level.
Despite the challenges, my third graders are very enthusiastic learners who particularly love reading and science. They are a group of hardworking, kind kids who are excited about school and love learning new things. I want to give them the best chance possible.
My Project
Next year, I will be working with a co-teacher because our classroom will have a large number of students receiving special education services. My students need small group instruction for things like reading, writing, and math. Small group instruction allows me to differentiate learning to meet specific needs of each student. I need the help of donors in order to provide sturdy stools for students to use at the small group table.
Having these stools will allow students to work comfortably at a table where they will receive extra support.
