This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Self-Contained grades 3-5 is an exciting group of students who have mixed abilities, interests, and goals. My students are motivated individuals who love to learn and are eager to participate in lessons! They are consistently working toward educational and behavioral goals in order to grow and flourish.
Every day they step into the classroom, they focus on working hard and focusing, despite any outside challenges they endure.
Each one of my students learns differently, which requires them to patient with themselves and one and other during the school day. They make gains toward both large and small goals on a daily basis, with a possible projected outcome to be mainstreaming into the general education classroom. Together, we work on life skills, building relationships, working in small groups, and communication. We celebrate all accomplishments with pride and strong sense of achievement.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and has been proven to increase focus and engagement in lessons. In the past, my students would lay on the carpet with a clipboard when it was time for independent work. This allows students to make a choice in their learning, and figure out where they learn best. Having flexible seating gives students responsibility and accountability.
Our classroom thrives on community; flexible seating is one way that increases the community feel and relationship building in the classroom.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The bands will benefit students who have the wiggles or even aggression by being able to kick the band. The other types of seating such as the bumpy seats or the exercise balls increase sensory input, which, for my students is crucial in their learning.
