This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Small group instruction is one of the most impactful ways to reach students where they are, offering the personalized support they need to thrive. In our busy first grade classroom, creating a space that’s both functional and flexible is essential. That’s why I’m requesting four collapsible stools to enhance our small group learning area.

These stools will be used daily during guided reading and math groups, allowing students to quickly and easily join small group tables without the clutter and bulk of traditional chairs.

Their lightweight design makes them easy for students to carry and move independently, fostering responsibility and ownership of their learning space. Because they’re collapsible, they can be stored neatly when not in use, helping us make the most of our limited classroom space.

Students will benefit from this project in multiple ways. First, having a designated seat in small group sessions reduces distractions and keeps students focused. These stools support an upright posture ideal for learning, and the simplicity of their design keeps fidgeting to a minimum. Students often rotate in and out of small groups throughout the day, and the quick setup of collapsible stools helps us transition smoothly and maximize our learning time. Additionally, having seating that is just for small groups gives students a sense of structure and importance during these more personalized learning sessions, increasing motivation and engagement.

Many of my students benefit from structure, routine, and consistency, especially during small group work where they receive targeted support. The addition of these stools will create a more inviting and organized environment, helping students feel safe, prepared, and ready to learn. Whether we’re diving into phonics, practicing math facts, or reading a new book together, the right seating makes a big difference.
