My Project
Our students are talented, respectful, capable rays of light in this world. If students have all that they need in the classroom to make sure their health, comfort, and wellness are being taken care of, they will perform better in school and become more productive members of society.
Research shows that flexible seating in a classroom gives students ownership in their own learning, creates a strong sense of community by allowing students to take turns with resources and to work in productive groups to collaborate, which increases productivity, engagement and learning.
Giving students options in the type of posture and comfort they have in the classroom will encourage students to complete assignments and maintain productivity. Students, by doing well and being productive, can earn the privilege of sitting with groups in the comfortable seating. It provides motivation to maintain productivity.
Overall, as a teacher, my goal for everything I do in and for my classroom is to increase student belonging, engagement and learning. I am confident that the flexible seating that I am requesting for this project will help my Spanish and social studies students feel a sense of belonging, comfort and academic success, which is the ultimate goal.
