Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Do need any help J?" "Do you have recordings we can make?" "Do you need me to edit anything?" "I can borrow some gear from another teacher" "I'll take off work so we can go do interviews this weekend." These are some of the statements that have come from my students over the past year.
My students want to learn, they want to be helpful.
These kids want to learn and do more; they want to gain experience. We are a low socioeconomic school with limited budget support for our non-core subject. We host a podcast in our classroom that brings in guest speakers each week. My students enjoy meeting professionals and learning about the world outside of high school.
My Project
Through this project my students will meet the professionals they aspire to become. However they will not simply shake hands and move on, but sit down with, interview and learn from them. My students will record the conversations on our new portable recorder to share the knowledge they have gained with the world.
Students will bring the recordings in to the computer lab to edit and create a final product that we will publish for the entire world to access.
With this project not only are we bringing the outside world into our classroom, but are turning around and putting our classroom on display for the entire world. Previous experiences with our podcast have brought in a Skype guest who regularly listens to the show even though his classroom is in China.
