Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am continually inspired by my students' dedication, creativity, and resilience. Each day, they juggle demanding academic schedules with their passion for music, demonstrating incredible commitment to their personal and collective growth.

Many students face challenges like anxiety and stress that can hinder their performance and overall well-being, which is why I am excited to create a supportive environment that prioritizes mental health and self-care.

The items requested for the High School Mental Health project—such as cozy seating, calming decor, and mental health resources—will create a nurturing space in the band hall where students can take a much-needed break. This dedicated area will provide them with a refuge to alleviate stress and improve focus when they return to rehearsals. Mental health posters and reminders will promote awareness and encourage open conversations about emotional well-being, fostering a culture that values mental health alongside musical achievement.

My goals for this project are threefold: to create a safe space for students to express themselves, to enhance mental health awareness, and to improve overall performance in band and academics. By integrating mindfulness resources, journals, and sensory tools, I aim to equip my students with practical strategies to manage stress and build emotional resilience.

What makes my students special is their unwavering support for one another and their ability to thrive in adversity. This project is an essential step toward ensuring they have the tools and support needed for success now and in the future.
