Many of my students are on free and reduced lunch and come from low-income households where educational resources are very limited. The love that they have towards school and learning at such a young age, amazes me. Such love gives me the drive I need to be the best teacher for them and provide them with whatever they need to succeed.
My students walk into the classroom every day full of life, excited to learn and eager to see what is in store for them each day.
However, despite the challenges they face at home they always enter school with smiling faces and ready minds.
My Project
Many of my students have limited access to books both in and out of the classroom. Books that are sent home often get lost or have serious wear and tear from overusage. My students love to take books home to read with their parents. I want to continue giving my students the opportunity to take home books by replacing some books that are in bad shape and adding more books to our take home library. Not only will these books be sent home but students will also have access to them in the classroom.
Reading although challenging for my young learners is an essential skill that they need.
In order to encourage confident readers, students need books that are on their own individual level.
The whisperphones will be used in both in small group and during read to self moments, where the child has to read quietly to themselves. Often times students lose track of their reading because their peers are reading louder than them. The whisperphones will help alleviate the noise factor and keep students focused on reading their books. Both the leveled readers and books will be used to build and develop fluency within my young readers.
