This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students now a days seem to have much more anxiety than ever before. We have also found that they have much less imagination and fantasy. These students have grown up during Covid and around a lot of depression and tension. We were surrounded by the fires , homeless and deportations. Their teacher was also finishing up a battle with breast cancer. So we needed a fun escape.
This year I introduced my students to the Magic Tree House.
I had never read them in the past and was new to third grade. What an absolute hit they were.
For 15-30 minutes a day the child could escape into another time. Our textbooks are mostly Informational text and not fantasy. My students every chance they took, went to the library and got the next book . They could so relate to the characters and each topic made them more and more intrigued. Not only did it help the fluency and imagination, these books really helped teach the children to read with feeling and dialogue. The students quickly went through the first five books I purchased for them. We read these whole group to supplement our reading program.
For the holidays Donors helped me get the second four books for every student. The children are finishing the last one now. We have 55 days left and I want the children and I to read until the last day. I would love for each student to have another set ( books 9-12) for class and for the Summer.
I also need a few more headphones, as we have to use the computers daily .
