it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is home to two classes of 20 fifth graders at a Title I school in the Washington Heights neighborhood of upper NYC. My students come to school everyday with a big heart filled with curiosity and an enthusiastic drive to learn more. They are passionate about their education as this school, despite the fact that over two-thirds of students are considered economically disadvantaged. Like most children, my students love having hands-on experiences and I want ALL of my students to be able to have access to their own personal learning needs!
Inspiring my students to learn with a hands-on, engaging environment is the mission in the classroom.
At the end of the year, I want my students to say, "This was the best year in math, ever!" My students deserve the best math education I can give them and I desire to be able to provide a mathematical education that will encourage my students to reach for the stars! They like to move, explain their thinking, speak using their vocabulary, and work cooperatively. We celebrate their learning as a class, and celebrate every student in the room as a valued member of our community.
My Project
Having a document camera would allow students to explain their thinking on the difficult mathematics problems they do, and would allow other students to critique their arguments. It would allow us to quickly compare different approaches to a problem without having to wait for someone to try and copy everything they wrote down on paper at their desk onto a whiteboard. They can use it to showcase their work, share ideas, and most importantly, see their work on the projector. That builds confidence in their mathematics abilities. This tool will allow students to engage in a new technology.

My students need to know that the world is a caring place, and that this piece of technology came from people who care about them without even having met them. That would be an incredibly powerful message for them.
