My students are socioeconomically challenged and often left to their own devices. Learning at home requires at-home support which very few of my students have available. Most of them have a Chromebook issued by the school, and the majority have access to the Internet. My students are required to log into the Google Classroom platform to retrieve their assignments.
We are definitely being challenged by the technology.
There are some huge hurdles that we have to overcome. My students need visual presentations which could be improved if I were able to demonstrate in a video with a decent video camera. All I have now is the webcam attached to my Chromebook which has limitations. I am only able to record 5 minutes at a time and with limited scope of vision.
I am so grateful for the technology we do have right now. Our current technology is definitely helping my students to keep learning. The most beneficial thing for my students would be better video coverage of lessons and individual support for them.
Who knew? I had no idea I would be teaching from home using video conferencing, homemade videos, and many locations throughout my house as a back drop for fourth grade lessons. But here I am, doing just that all day.
I would really like my videos to be a higher quality visual for my students.
It is hard enough to compete with all of their surroundings for their attention. I hate to see poor quality video be the reason they check out of learning.
Kids need to be engaged and entertained while learning. It is time to bring out the ¨showbiz¨ side of things. Later, when we are not learning at a distance, I can still use the video for individualized lessons for students at different levels and post them to Google Classroom. I am very excited about the possibilities.
