In our Spanish class, we are celebrating Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rican people. We plan to make Taino crafts. We will recreate traditional Taino designs on clay jewelry to wear. We will also draw traditional Taino designs on paper to make "Feliz Dia de Puerto Rico" cards to give to friends and family.
Many of the students in the class have family from Puerto Rico.
We will recognize the unique contributions of the Puerto Ricans to the culture of New York. We will also discuss the native population of the island and recreate their art style.
