Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It is nothing short of a miracle when a child learns to read. It seems like one minute they struggle with those strange symbols on the page, and the next minute everything clicks. Help my students with special needs to experience the wonder and joy of learning to read with Leapfrog TAG readers.
I provide special education services to some amazing students in grades 1-4.
These students have a variety of needs including learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, autism, and severe cognitive impairments, to name a few. They face many challenges and require different modes of instruction in order for them to gain access to an education. Many are English Language Learners. Our school is located in a large urban city in CT. I have the rare opportunity of turning these students on to learning. It is a privilege to work with these special students who are near and dear to me.
My Project
These TAG Leapfrog materials are perfect because they are visual and engaging. The TAG Leapfrog short and long vowel kits will allow the students to practice their sounds and master them at their own pace! The carrying case and batteries will allow the students to work from any area in the classroom because it is portable technology. The TAG National Geographic Animal cards will allow the students to read to learn as the learn to read. They can choose their favorite bird or sea animal and read along to learn interesting facts!
The materials in this project will help me develop hands-on activities and lessons that will reinforce their decoding skills. Students will practice following directions, phonemic awareness, sight words, and story retell! I hope to combine reading, writing, language, and fun with these TAG readers.
My students deserve the best the world has to give them. My hope is to provide experiences that will teach them the necessary skills to succeed in life! Thank you!!!
Students with special needs face challenges making it difficult to understand and relate to what they learn in school.
Many of my students are turned off by school because they haven't had much success. TAG Leapfrog readers are child friendly technology which fosters student confidence in the classroom.
"Once children learn how to learn, nothing is going to narrow their mind. The essence of teaching is to make learning contagious, to have one idea spark another." -- Marva Collin
