Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Science! I have found this to be the best way to get children excited about learning. Children are so naturally curious about the world around them and they want to know how things work. Motivating the children through hands-on science activities can be very successful. I teach third grade students in Hayward, California, at a Title 1 school where most of the students receive free/reduced price lunch. In Hayward's adopted science curriculum are many exciting activities, but there is one to which the children respond with much enthusiasm. It is observing the changes that a tadpole goes through to become a frog. Unfortunately, the district adopted the curriculum without purchasing the equipment kits with which to fully implement the program. Therefore, the teacher is left to his/her own devices to attain the materials needed. For two years I was able to borrow the tank and supplies that were required for the "From Egg to Frog" investigation but was saddened by the request for the return of those supplies. Unfortunately, this past year my students were unable to witness this rather awesome process. I would like to request an aquarium, gravel, and plants to provide a habitat for the tadpoles so that my third graders can have an equal opportunity to access the State-approved, district-adopted science curriculum.
