Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 26 first graders who enter the classroom daily with a positive attitude and who are ready to learn. I have a very diverse group of students who embrace each other's differences. Over 63% of our school population are on free/reduced lunch, so any extra support or resources we receive is much appreciated. The students I have this year are resilient, kind, and love to explore! They get restless if they have to do seat work; it is through hands-on learning where they truly thrive. Being able to hold things, examine, and create, are some of the ways we learn in our classroom. We emphasize collaboration, teamwork, and helping each other out.

My Project

I have students with different learning goals and some of them are at the preschool level that love books with different textures. These books will allow students who do not know their letters, colors, and sight words to practice during independent reading time.

The bright colors and textures in these books will keep struggling and beginning readers engaged.

Students will feel successful and it will give them a sense of enjoyment by having a variety of books to choose from. These books will make our classroom library feel a lot more inclusive by providing more choices for students who need extra support.
