This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a self contained class with a mix of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students in the South Bronx. They all worked so hard. I have had this group two years ago and most went from a level B reading level to Level I. I want them to continue too grow and feel confident that they can do all things they put there mind to. In our class we have reading/ phonics and math stations that is special to each child needs this allows for them to work at their own pace independently, with a partner or myself. My school is able to provide us with the basic supplies at the start of the school year I mostly make or buy what they need to keep the stations going all year long. It is my wish that we have more station supplies that will keep their interest and engaged along with a classroom that students can visually see and know when they have to move this will help us work and move more effectively.
My Project
I, Ms. Boston, currently have been assigned to work five days a week in the school building with my students. We all love being together in our own space and enjoy the days we can have a normal day of connecting with each other in person, but this school year has brought us many challenges that we have been able to tackle together. I currently use a laptop my school has suppled to me for the past four years. Before this year I rarely took it home due to fear of it breaking on getting damaged on my commute on the bus and train to work. I have found that this year I desperately need a laptop at home to work with when school is shut down without notice due to COVID-19 and the new work from home on snow days that are announced the night before. Three times I have found myself stressed and overwhelmed when I have read emails that state we will be working from home for 10 days only a few hours after I have left the building. I have found myself calling friends to borrow a laptop to work on the next morning. My school currently has given all extra laptops to the students and staff who work at home permanently for the school year. So there are no extra ones to give for me to have at home.
Having a laptop that I can work with at home when I have to teach my class virtually would ease a great amount of stress and allow me to property teach my class on emergency shut down days.
