This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a School Counselor at a Title l middle school. My students are in grades 6-8. They are resilient and strong but many struggle with anxiety, depression and difficult home lives. My students are capable and creative but sometimes need a place at school that is outside of their academic setting.
My office is a place for students to take breaks, express feelings, be heard and allow for self expression without judgement from their peers.
Many of them enjoy fidgets to help with anxiety and to utilize when expressing their emotions. This year, we are focused on solution focused learning and reframing negative thoughts.
My office is a place where I want students to feel calm and safe with every emotion. I am requesting items to help make the space feel relaxed, calm and safe. All of the fidget related items, stickers, anxiety ball are for students to use when having anxiety and to use when they need a quick break or to use during a counseling group. The white board will be used for counseling groups. The filing cabinet, poster, lava lamp, chair and contact paper is to ensure that my office has a place for everything and is aesthetic to maintain a calm environment for students.
