My students need tablets to increase literacy skills. Through the incorporation of technology, students will have access to a variety of resources. The portable devices will allow learning to occur at any location in the classroom.

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Literacy is an essential part of student development. When students have confidence in their reading and writing skills, they feel more determined and motivated to accomplish their goals. My students struggle with writing, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. I am seeking resources that interest middle school students to help improve literacy skills. I want to ensure that they feel supported by providing them with adequate resources.

The students that I teach primarily come from low income communities.

Only a small percentage of students have acceptable Lexile scores since a majority are reading significantly below their appropriate grade level. Students consistently score as beginning learners on assessments and could benefit from increased literacy skills and opportunities at learning.

My Project

Student success is dependent upon the selected Acer tablet devices. I have selected four devices that I believe will be a start in getting students involved and motivated to be successful. The compact design and mobility will allow students to transform their literacy skills anywhere in the learning environment. Students can access different websites to have unlimited reading experiences. Incorporating technology into the classroom has the potential to benefit all students.

The devices will be used to increase reading fluency and comprehension.

Access to valuable resources that support reading skills will easily transfer to further developing students' writing skills. Practicing effective literacy skills and strategies will take students from beginning learners to proficient and distinguished individuals.
