Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 24 students have already grown and changed so much since the beginning of the year- new haircuts, missing teeth, new backpacks/clothes, and more. And although they are only 6 and 7 years old, they run the show.
If you came to visit my classroom, you'd notice students leading routines, dutifully completing various class jobs, and even leading their own academic conferences.
As I think about what it means to truly empower my students, I am constantly reflecting on different ways that I can take the back seat as they drive their own development.
My Project
One of the greatest joys of teaching is seeing the different ways my student learn. My visual learners need pictures while my kinesthetic learners like to act things out. My left-brained thinkers are more analytical while my right-brained thinkers see things more holistically.
In a room full of diverse learners, I am realizing that my instructional toolkit must be equally diverse.
We are lucky enough to have a robust online learning environment, using 3 different online programs to supplement teacher instruction. These programs are adaptive, which means students receive tailored instruction and create their own pace for learning.
A challenge with these programs is that some students are able to access them at home, while others are not. This project would allow students and families to engage with these programs in our school's parent center. Students would get extra time before and after school to drive their learning. Additionally, parents would get the opportunity to understand how these programs work and support their scholars' progress.
