Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Last year my school piloted a Dual Language program starting in kindergarten. Since it's still in its conception, everything we do is brand new.

I have 50 students to care for and double the work, but I continue to welcome the challenge.

This also means double the supplies. My students come from South Africa, South America, Dominican republic and the US. It is definitely a diverse group learning to be bilingual. Our school is located in a high poverty area and so it is with the help and support of DonorsChoose that my classes have survived some difficulties these past couple of years.

My Project

After our literacy lesson, students are put into groups to rotate center time while I conduct guided reading groups. These tablets will be used in the literacy center for independent activities including but not limited to Word Study, Reading and Comprehension as well as interactive educational apps to engage the students.

Not only are tablets visually appealing and easy to use but the ELL's in my classroom will benefit from listening to books read aloud to them, as well as using the tablets to access a multitude of programs that assist them in learning the target language.

I know that all of my students will love the chance to experience this new technology that may not be accessible to them at home.
