"Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." -- Steve Jobs. I want my students to be leaders! They need tablets to encourage their leadership skills. During my small groups my students fight for the privilege to use the computers. Tablets will add more technology for the students.
These are children who usually do not have access to technology or innovation at home.
Even if they do have access, they are not always guided to utilizing the technology in an instructional way. I want to offer them the opportunity to learn and grow with new apps and learning tools to spark their interest and develop their love of learning and urge to lead. The students will have access to a variety of individual use apps on these tablets. They will be able to access our wi-fi and enjoy the benefits of technology.
My Project
Unfortunately, I only have four computers and one Kindle in my classroom and nine students in each small group. This leaves four students without access to innovation. They may listen to CDs or books on tape but they strive for that interaction with technology. Technology teaches best when it is interactive and students can learn and grow at their own pace. I dream about offering them the appropriate technology to develop all the skills they have. I want to offer websites like ABC Mouse, Starfall, Waterford Learning System, and a plethora of others to as many students in the day that I can!
These tablets will be used EVERY day and not only during our reading groups but during math groups as well.
I want them to develop reading and math skills at their own level and these tablets and apps will help with this enormously. It will allow all my students to access innovation and learn to be leaders every day!
