Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 38 highly motivated first grade students everyday. They are enrolled in a Spanish Dual Language class where I help them develop in reading, writing, science and social studies as well as the acquisition of a second language. The students are very eager to learn and explore new things.
The make up of my student's is very diverse.
No matter their learning level each of them really enjoys the investigations we do in science. It is a time where they can make mistakes and then explore to discover something new.
Hurricane Harvey did impact my students because they remember having the electricity out and seeing the aftermath of the flood water. I still have students that get scared when they hear the word flood. Some of my students homes were damaged due to the flooding. Many people in and around our community came to make sure our students needs were met with food, clothing and shelter.
My Project
This is the age of technology and opportunity. It is important to give my students these two things to help bridge learning with real world experiences. The Samsung Galaxy Tablets will allow me to help my students reach their fullest potential by allowing them to utilize them in diverse learning opportunities such as in research, enhancing phonological skills, creating projects, becoming better readers and many others things to help with their growth.
The Spanish Emergent Readers and Tub O’ Spanish Words Sets will help my students develop their reading and writing skills through practice while working in their reading, writing, and word work stations.
It is important to help develop these skills to help them become lifelong readers and writers. While building these essential skills the students will do it in a fun way by manipulating words, creating sentences, and identifying letters or words that they may have struggled mastering.
