This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Attending a District 75 high school in Bronx, New York, all six students within my 6:1:1 classroom live and reside in the Bronx and have been diagnosed with autism. With four males and two females, two students are primarily non-verbal.
Students benefit from technology, while they are learning!
Students enjoy being online- using a computer or a SmartBoard! Each student in my classroom learns differently! Students in my classroom love to use technology, not only for fun but also to support them with learning. Differentiated learning materials such as visual images, videos, hands-on activities, interactive lessons, online quizzes, and games support students with their learning but also peaks student interests! With very minimal technology and colorful materials for each month's curriculum presently available within my classroom, retaining student focus can be challenging. Students in my classroom want to learn!
My Project
Having tablets in the classroom will provide an essential learning resource for my students. Students will be able to benefit from a one-stop do it all devices. With tablets in the classroom, students will be able to interact during lessons to review slides on selected materials, review videos, participate in classroom surveys, complete quizzes and assessments online while also completing researching on an assigned topic.
Tablets in the classroom will enable my students to learn new skills in a fast and easy way, working independently, in small groups/teams or in pairs!
Having apps, storytelling and music at the tips of their fingers permit students with autism to develop new skills and grow academically. By having access to additional forms of technology in the classroom, students will work independently, but permit them to communicate with their preferred mode of communication to how they want to learn.
