I teach in a school where the majority of the students are part of families with a low socioeconomic status. The student population is vastly diverse with varying ability levels, including English Language Learners and learning support students.
While the students I teach are faced with numerous obstacles, they have a thirst for knowledge that is unmatched.
They work hard to develop an understanding of the concepts I teach in my classroom and enjoy when technology is included in the learning process. Technology use can assist in differentiating assignments and aids my students in learning skills that will help them in my classroom and also as they prepare for the goals they set for themselves for the future.
My classroom currently only has three outdated desktop computers for student usage. This limitation makes it extremely difficult to for me to bring the amount of technology I desire into the classroom. In addition, this limitation makes it difficult for me to allow the number of students I need to access technology to do so on a daily basis.
Technology use in the classroom helps to engage students and makes them become more active participants in the learning process.
Through the implementation of even the limited technology I have in my classroom, my students learned to participate in interactive activities as well as create informative presentations. Through the use of the requested Fire tablets, students will be afforded more opportunities to work more independently through blended learning. Students who are capable will take a more active role in learning through taking notes and completing assignments interactively while I provide less capable students with more individualized instruction and intervention. The buzzers will afford me an opportunity to review and discuss content in a forum that students will enjoy!
