Tablets for Teaching

My Students

My students are active and engaged 5 and 6 year old children who love learning with technology. They are also avid readers. I plan to use these tablets throughout the day and having these 3 to add to the 5 we already have would give me enough for each child to have a tablet during our reading groups.

Our class is the "Hot Diggity Dogs." We are one of 18 kindergarten classrooms at our Pre-k through 3rd grade school in west Georgia.

We are a school that believes in dynamic practices, out of the box projects, and supporting our students wherever they are. These ideas transfer over to classroom practices that include small groups, project based learning, STEM education, RTI support, hands on learning, student-led learning with teacher support and guidance, and lots of fun.

My Project

These tablets will be used across the curriculum. We are very fortunate to have 5 tablets but with 22 students my small groups have 6 or 7 students in each. Providing 3 more tablets would provide these group sizes as well as one for the teacher. In math, these tablets will be used for measurement recordings, creating graphs with data, and skill refinement through math apps. In ELA, these tablets will be used for digital writing through storyjumper.com, in guided reading through Kids A to Z apps, and to promote sight and phonics skills through games and apps. We create digital recordings of students reading & then create a QR listening center that is our own voices! In science and social studies, these tablets will be used for research, to collaborate on projects, and to refine skills through games and apps. We are a state certified STEM school and STEM is a very important part of our classroom. Providing these tablets provides more access to technology during STEM.

These tablets will be used daily in my classroom.

Children today are so fluent and comfortable with technology, it is always the adults that must keep up with them! I want to be the teacher that keeps up with the students and provides them the resources they need to learn and keep learning cutting edge techniques.
