This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These students are rambunctious, ambitious, hilarious, little adults. They're intelligent, sensitive, and loving characters who each know our school is their family, and we love every single one of them. A short story describes them best: The 3rd grade class noticed that they were the only class not consistently receiving parfaits for breakfast. They found their lack of parfaits was an injustice. Especially since even 1st graders ate parfaits each morning! The scholars first complained, and then they campaigned. They decided to ask the cafeteria staff to alter their breakfast but they were quickly told to reference the school food calendar. Two parfaits a month just wasn't enough while 5th graders ate it daily. The students then wrote a petition and had the entire school sign it, including the vice principal. Long story short, this wonderful 3rd grade class presented a speech in front of the corporate representatives for their cafeteria food along with our principal. Everyone was impressed! The third graders are now able to receive parfaits during their lunch hour as a compromise. This is a small example of how determined and brilliant these students are.
My Project
Help give our students tablets so that they can continue learning during this crisis. With your donations, our children will be able to use an Amazon Fire Tablet in their home to learn with. This technology will serve those families that are without computers and tablets in their homes. They will be able to read books through the Kindle App, access the internet and Google search, and watch educational videos on YouTube. The Kindle Store has thousands of textbooks, including popular titles from Pearson, Cengage, McGraw-Hill, and Wiley. There are also tens of thousands of free, out-of-copyright books such as Pride and Prejudice and Gulliver’s Travels. Some of the educational apps are ST Math or BrainPOP, which are currently used in DCPS schools. Please assist continuing the education of our kids during this unprecedented time.
