Each student makes up an essential, unique thread within the fabric of our school community.
These creative, innovative, and enthusiastic students are the future of fashion and design. On a daily basis, these dedicated students work endlessly to bring their concepts to life in the form of clothing and accessories. Imagine the sense of accomplishment when a student revels in his or her work: a finished pair of pants, a shirt, a coat, and so on. As an educator, it is just as thrilling to bear witness to this process.
Akin to the garment district, our school is situated in Manhattan where even the skyscrapers do not reach the heights of our students’ ingenuity and talent. Our goal is to support and prepare these remarkable students for success in higher education and to follow in the footsteps of alumni, who have gone onto schools such as the Fashion Institute of Technology, The New School, Pratt Institute, Savannah College of Art, and Design, etc.
My Project
Our clothing is becoming smarter than ever thanks to technology! The work of apparel and technology is hiding in plain sight. Have you ever wondered how a firefighter's uniform protects him or her from high temperatures and dangerous flames? How do spacesuits allow astronauts to explore the depths of the unknown? These are but only a few examples of how science and technology are fused with apparel design to produce innovative, wearable product. Thanks to textile science, apparel includes important, exciting features that protect, communicate, and so on. STEM is very much present in the realm of apparel design.
Four Insignia Tablets will enable my students to explore and truly understand the relationship between STEM education and the likes of apparel technology, design applied mathematics, textile science, etc.
