For students who return to club each week they have taken their needles home to practice each week, returning each week eager to show how much progress they've made. Now, with the new printer right in our classroom, they can print both color and black-and-white versions of reference materials to study value, color relationships, and composition side by side.\r\n\r\nYou can see in the photos how students printed reference images for their Abstract Drawing Inspired by Cells project. They began by analyzing their printed research in grayscale to focus on form and structure, and in color to explore mood and contrast. From there, they created thumbnail sketches, experimented with layering and blending techniques, and developed their final pieces using colored pencil. The results were stunning - vibrant, imaginative abstractions that reflected both scientific inspiration and personal expression.\r\n\r\nHaving immediate access to visual resources in color has not only improved the quality of student work but also deepened their engagement and independence. Students are now more confident when discussing artistic choices and better equipped to translate their ideas from screen to paper.\r\n\r\nThis printer has truly brought color to creativity in our art room. Many of them face the daily challenge of hunger, which makes it so hard to focus on science lessons or even stay awake. Having something tangible to offer them—whether it was a quick snack before starting class or a small resource to help them settle—was a game changer. I'll never forget the moment I asked them to write how they were feeling on a simple check-in sheet; half wrote \"hungry,\" and nearly the rest wrote \"tired.\" Seeing their honesty, and then being able to respond with something supportive, created a powerful sense of trust and relief in the room.\r\nOne small project we started was combining our daily check-ins with science warm-ups. Students who might normally sit silently with their heads on their desks were now more willing to participate because their immediate needs were acknowledged. I've seen students perk up and share their thoughts in discussions, and even smile while working through an activity they would have otherwise ignored. The materials didn't just fill empty stomachs—they helped make space for curiosity and engagement.\r\nLooking ahead, the next step for my students is tying these resources into ongoing classroom projects. Right now, we are building habits of self-monitoring and goal setting: students jot down how they're feeling, what they need, and what they aim to accomplish that day in biology. With their basic needs more consistently met, they are starting to take ownership of their work in new ways. Thanks to your generosity, my students can focus on being learners instead of just surviving the school day—and that is a priceless gift.","fullyFundedDate":1714417895599,"projectUrl":"project/my-kids-are-hungry/8130742/","projectTitle":"My Kids are Hungry","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. D","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8264963_orig.jpg?crop=1075,1075,x780,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1703616406616","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8264963"},{"teacherId":7959418,"projectId":9120619,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donations! \nThe students LOVE the hot chocolate and tea station!
