Tablets as a Social Experience

My students need tools to make their audio experiences more accessible, communal, and stress-free. We LOVE our tablets, but now we need silicon cases and head phone splitters.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are empathetic, driven, and critical to analyze the world around them. Developmentally, students are ready to start asking tough questions that even adults struggle with; seeking out answers be it through teachers, classroom materials, or their own research.

The best part about 4th and 5th grade is that students are proud to share their strong opinions, and quick to stand up for a friend or community in need.

Whether it's detecting bias in a text, or standing in solidarity with a national protest, students are actively engaged in their surroundings.

My Project

Tablets and audiobooks allow students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Currently we have gotten ten tablets to add to our classroom library, enabling students to read more independently regardless of need. However, now it's time to step up our game. We want to make sure our tablets are not only long lasting, but also allow for us to engage in the communal experiences that we so crave.

Listening to a book together and having that shared experience not only builds a love and confidence in reading, but also strengthens our community.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them tools to grow their reading skills while also sharing stories with each other and emphasizing reading as a social experience. The headphone splitters will allow students to listen to books not only with their peers, but also with adults in the classroom. With a holding potential of 5 headphones, these splitters can recreate the experience of a read aloud while empowering students to take ownership of what they are reading and sharing with peers. The silicon tablet cases will ensure that we have these tools for years to come!

I have seen how positive literacy experiences affect my students confidence and identity and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
