This project focuses on incoporating Tabletop Whiteboards to Build Collaborative Thinking among my amazing first grade students!
My goals with this project is to have students be able to work together, collaboratively in pairs or small groups to build words, write sentences, respond and edit writing, as well as to apply math skills to more authentic math tasks.
I envision students using what basic skills they have learned in math to tackle more authentic math tasks. For example, once students have learned about perimeter, they could find all of the different ways that a table could seat 12 people. This would allow them opportunities to apply their knowledge of number sense with geometry while also building critical thinking skills as they work together to find as many different ways to make 12 around a table as they can.
This project, while supporing collaborative learning, fosters students social emotional learning as students work to problem solve, share, and communicate with one another. Students thrive when learning is collaborative as engagement goes up!
