Tables for Learners (Part 2)

My Students

My students are some of the best first graders. They are so smart and funny! They love to learn and grow. All of my students come into my classroom to feel safe and loved. We live in a rural town in Missouri. A lot of these kids live on farms, old houses or small apartments in town. There are many low-income families in our district. Sometimes education is not the focus.

We LOVE to learn and many times the best way to learn is not sitting at desks in a chair, we like to move around the room and utilize everything we can.

We are a Title I school, and many of these kids receive free or reduced lunch, buddy packs, or some just need a mid-morning or afternoon snack from their teacher.

My Project

Currently, in my classroom, I have enough desks for every first-grade student. I have one small table that they can choose to work at as well. The problem is, ALL of my students want to sit at the table instead of their own desk. I would love to let them all work at that space, but it only seats two comfortably. I would like to get tables where all of my students can work comfortably even with the flexible seating choices that I have available.

I feel that if my students are comfortable in their classroom that it will enhance their learning.

Tables would also give the students more space to work and collaborate with their peers. The storage containers would work perfectly to store their supplies. That way all of the student's supplies are in an arms reach away!
