My students enjoy art. Classes are a combination of 9th through 12th graders. Each day, they come to class ready to create art.
My students love art!
We compete in many competitions. We have competed at the State and National levels. Students earn awards and recognition for their artworks. Not only do they love coming to class to create art, it is also a safe space for them.
It is important for them to have time, during the day to relax and be creative. Art offers a safe space for just that. I love my students and watching them grow as young artists.
My Project
Rockport, Texas had a direct hit from Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Both of the Hurricane's eye-walls passed over our community. Many lost homes, their livelihood, pets, vehicles, and sentimental items. The school was damaged severely. Classrooms were completely destroyed. In the art rooms, we lost our floor tiles, tables, and other equipment used to create art. We were able to salvage some of our belongings, but are still in need of furniture. We were unable to purchase art tables for our students to work from. We have had folding tables and are currently using what was left from one of the elementary schools. These tables had the least amount of damage. However, they are not very sturdy, move when someone bumps into them, and do not fit a high school student very well since they were made for elementary students. For this reason, we are asking for funds to be able to replace our current furniture with tables more suitable for art.
