This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic first graders who are ready to learn all that they can! They come in each day willing to take chances and be the best they can be. I need to provide an inviting place for them to continue their love of learning!

My school is in a poor, needy section of the city.

While the principal, teachers and staff try our hardest to give the students all that they need, we sometimes have to make do with what we have. They would never know that they are lacking anything as we give them our all every day! My first graders are full of energy. They put forth their best effort from the time they walk in the classroom until the time they pack up to leave at the end of the day. I have high expectations for them, and they gladly work towards the challenge. My classroom is a community of learners, and we support each other through every task. Their love of learning is contagious and the connections they make are amazing!

My Project

My classroom is in desperate need of a table with chairs for small group learning. We currently use two small tables pulled together with an open seam in the middle. The chairs are leftovers from a kindergarten room, and are much too short for my growing first graders! A new table would show the importance of our small group work. Students could sit and work comfortably for guided reading, guided math and other small group instruction throughout the day. A nice workspace confirms that these students deserve the best! No more hand me downs!

My students will see that they matter if they have new furniture in the classroom.

No more broken, wrong size, make do table for us! I always reinforce how important learning is and the high expectations I have for each one of them. This would be reinforced with an inviting, comfortable place to learn. Students will want to come to a small group table that fits 6 of them. Students will be motivated to work when they have a classroom conducive to learning.
