My Students

I have a lovely group of lively teenagers who love collaborating and building connections with those around them. They are curious individuals who love the opportunity for discussion.

My students are learning the importance of sharing and listening and the value that literature can bring to our lives through both collaboration and introspection.

Our rural Maine high school challenges our students to think outside of themselves, and to engage with the world around them. Only through sharing ideas is this possible.

My Project

We currently have 19 mismatched and broken student desks. These desks show years of use, and duct tape covers broken metal pieces to protect the user. They are a disaster when it comes to maneuverability and durability. The desks are a one size fits all solution in a not so one size world. In the time span of one class period, we go from a large group circle, to pairs, to a large group again. Separate tables and chairs would allow for easing transition. Also, it is time to make our classroom feel like a comfortable place to sit, share, and learn rather than a sterile and outdated institution.
