All of my students are from low-income families, who do not have access to many engaging experiences. Approximately half of my students have learning disabilities or developmental delays or are reading significantly below 8th grade level. The other half of my students come from similar backgrounds, but are reading at grade level or significantly above grade level.
My students use literature and writing to discover who they are and who they aspire to become.
Teenagers are so curious about the world and how they fit into it, and I seek to provide them unique and engaging experiences to help them get a sense of who they want to become. My students are readers, writers, dreamers, debaters, problem-solvers, comedians, actors, and speakers. They need experiences to help them discover what is possible.
My Project
My students work at round tables, which not only provide an independent workspace for them, but they also make it simple for them to collaborate with each other. They write in their notebooks, utilize their Chromebooks, read their novels, create projects, eat lunch, and play board games on these tables!
One of our tables is broken- the leg is falling off- which is distracting and dangerous.
My students need a new table to replace our broken one. The 8 tables we have fit all 30 students, but we need furniture that is in good repair to make our classroom a safer, more effective, and more engaging place to learn.
