It is my duty to bridge the gap between my student's current level of performance and the grade-level standards. My deaf kindergarten and first graders are at an academic disadvantage due to their disability. Therefore, I am eager to gain the materials necessary to enrich their learning experiences.
I am an auditory-oral teacher of the deaf and I instruct my students through listening and spoken language, not through sign language.
All of my students wear cochlear implants and hearing aids to access sound. A typical day in my classroom is rather noisy considering the circumstances. However, I think this behavior is motivated by their desire to learn and just their overall love of being in school. That said, I often receive feedback from my colleagues on how polite, sweet, caring, and talkative my students are. I may be biased, but I definitely have the cutest class!
My Project
The t-shirts and dye will be used for three auditory-oral classes. The shirts will us help identify our students when we go on field trips.
We regularly take public transportation as we feel our students should learn how to become independent travelers; however, it can get crowded and we want to ensure all of our students are accounted for.
The t-shirts will also be used for when one of our students has an accident or needs a new shirt. Accidents happen all the time, and being able to provide a clean, dry t-shirt makes the students feel less embarrassed and comfortable.
