What I love about the students that I teach is that they are filled with perseverance and grit! The students in my school are primarily low income, ELL learners, who value learning and strive to do their best!
My classroom is comprised of both General Ed and Special Ed students who have a love and passion for learning.
They dream of being successful, helping their families, and reaching their full potential. With your help, we can help my students to develop the skills needed to reach those goals.
Imagine sitting on a hard plastic chair for 3 hours, have movement for 45 minutes and return to the classroom for the remainder of the day, to have only 2 options for seating, the rug or the plastic chair. This is the situation in my classroom. The classroom environment impacts students behavior. So how can students learn best if they are uncomfortable? Chairs that students can swivel and move help to improve comfort and attention.
According to Lennie Scott-Webber, director of global education environments for Steelcase Education, "Incorporating swivel chairs into the classroom allows students to change and switch in a fluid moment, rather than clunking around to try to get into different situations."
In other studies conducted, students and faculty had compared their experience in a traditional furnished classroom to a classroom that was designed to provide more comfort and flexibility in learning. The results showed that classrooms designed to promote engaged learning, had a significant effect on student learning, motivation and engagement.
Swivel chairs are one of the many tools that will make all the difference in my classroom. With a wide range of various learners and learning styles, I believe that the swivel chairs will provide flexibility, comfort, movement and will enhance my student's learning and engagement in the classroom.
