Our school is composed of amazing student and teacher leaders willing to do what is necessary to continually learn and grow while becoming contributing members of their community.
Together, we are growing the future with lessons, love and leadership.
We aggressively engage in opportunities that provide our students with rich and rigorous academics, practical life and work skills, as well as leadership opportunities, in a safe, encouraging learning environment.
I teach two classes of both ELA/reading and history to a total of 70 6th grade students. Of those students, several have either diagnosed inability to pay attention, high anxiety or other behavioral obstacles that affect their ability to learn. Even with the opportunities, support systems and our amazing educational staff, many students are struggling to stay focused, ultimately affecting their overall success.
My Project
I am working towards providing options for student seating in the classroom. These options will include stability balls, chair cushions, chair bands, wobble seats and stands, floor seating as well as traditional seating.
Alternative seating is a hot topic in education because allowing students choice and movement in their seating arrangements can greatly improve behavior and academic performance.
In addition, it can provide comfort for those who struggle with traditional seating.
Having options for seating is just another way we can instill in children that they have the power to choose the tools and resources to overcome obstacles to success!
