My Project

My classroom has an average of 10 students at a time in it. The students need support for social-emotional needs. This includes the need of a place to get away when overstimulated or emotionally or physically dysregulated.

The swings, crash pad and other sensory/ calming items will be used to create space in my room for sensory breaks.

This will be a spot for them to reset, and come back ready to learn.

Engaging in sensory activities and utilizing this space when emotionally dysregulated will teach them to manage their emotions and develop a greater sense of self-awareness. Many students with Autism, ADHD, and Anxiety need help to reset their vestibular system.

The space is located in a corner of our main classroom, and is being painted a calming color, and will hopefully have swings, mats, crash pad, lots of pillows, sensory items and visuals to help them.
