This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Writing to start the new year! For many students the first time they ever write a sentence or a word comes in kindergarten.

My students attend an inner city elementary school located in a high poverty area.

More than half of my students primary language is Spanish. They are not only learning the curriculum but, learning to speak and understand English as well. They are eager enthusiastic learners.

My Project

I am requesting resources such as pencils and dry erase markers that will enable students to have various writing opportunities. For many student this is their first time writing with a purpose. Their first time having to express themselves in the form of print. It might be drawing or writing their responses on paper and pencil or on a dry erase board. I am also requesting glue sticks at the begining of the year students are unable to write words. Their responses will come through drawing or gluing and pasting pictures.

My project is important because it provides students with basic supplies to acquire foundational writing skills.

Writing is a very important communication skill. Through my experience as an educator I have found that it is very stressful and frustrating for students to express themselves in written form. I want students to have many opportunities to write making them more comfortable, less stressed and better able to express themselves.
